Psychedelic Swoop....
I'm trying to program a patch that emulates what Ozric Tentacles uses in almost all of their tracks. The bubbly psychedelic swoop. I'm extremely new to programing and have tried on numerous occasions to follow the tutorial on the subject but with frustrating results. Thanks for your input!

Could you post a sample?

Version 1:
1. Set an LFO 1 to modulate oscillator pitch.
2. Set the LFO 1 rate to low and shape to triangle or sine.
3. From modulation matrix set LFO 1 rate as destination and modulation wheel as a source. Modualtion value to rather high.
4. Tweak the oscillator wavefroms and other values to suit to taste.
5. Add delay and other FX as preferred.
Version 2:
1. Set the filter resonance to rather high. (be careful with the sound volume when playing with extreme resonances)
2. Set the filter type to 24dB LP and cutoff to roughly in the middle.
3. Set LFO 2 to modulate filter cutoff.
4. Set LFO 2 rate low and set the modulation matrix for the LFO 2 like on the Version 1 for the LFO 1. Except a smaller modulation value works better.
5. Tweak the oscillator waveforms and try out different filter types and values.
6. FX, etc.
Now you should have the type of sound you are looking for. The ModWheel adds the warble.

A small mp3 or link to a (relatively) good-sounding example would be nice..
Best,

Juho thanks for the reply, would I start out using an Init patch or one of the presets? I've spent a lot of time tweaking "Flying T" but don't exactly get the desired the results. As for supplying a link or small mp3 I've been searching but nothing yet. Stay tuned!

Start from Init. It's rather simple sound. I haven't owned a Virus in years so it would be impossible to guide you in patch tweaking.
Here is something. In the beginning there is a bit like a sound Guenther is looking for. It's basic warbly modulated sweep. I assume in addition to that sound Guenther is searching for adjustable warble rate.

FM can't drop slow enough to cause the slow wobble.
Audiorate LFOs are ace for these kinds of sweeps. Alas Virus series don't have ones.

Try this example based on filter self oscillation (you can play with most of the parameters to suit your taste). Start with init patch ("C126 - Init -" on a Virus C):
Make the analogue filter self oscillate and decay:
Osc vol: -64
Filter 1 mode: Analog 4P
Filter balance: -64
Cutoff: 60
Resonance: 127
Filter env. amount: about 55
Filter decay: 100
Make LFO2 "wobble" the filter and make LFO1 modulate the "wobble" rate:
LFO1 rate: 22
LFO1 contour: -50
LFO1 envmode: on
LFO1 shape: saw
LFO1 -> assign, dest: LFO2rate, amount: +25
LFO2 rate: 90
LFO2 shape: triangle (try different shapes, some of the waves works well too)
LFO2 -> filter 1: +33
This is to make the sound die out with a more "square" decay:
Mod assign 1, source: ampenv, dest: ampdecay, amount: +50
Amp decay: 35
Add reverb if you like...
