The Virus itself as an effect is very good; I have a Launchcontrol XL .... should try to map the effects to it as you.
When I think about outboard gear I think about something to change the timbre, to modify the color of the sound. The plugins are of course excellent for that, maybe I'm searching for something special that a plugin can't give.
