Well it yes you can modulate osc 1 and 2 together, but as Pighood said it isn't the same. It is useful for "dirtying up"the oscillators. It doesn't sound like full FM that can be achieved Waldorf style or in various other synths. Give it a go!

Last night the FM and comb filtering on my tiny Blofeld desktop made me sooo happy to be a proud owner of this beautiful little device. It sits sooo nicely with it's dark brother, Mr. Virus.

I'm rather fond of the Virus's noise-based FM. I've so far found less use for the other modes.

I deg to biffer...
The new distortion algorithms can do essentially what the existing FM control does.
However, giving FM real "teeth," that is, to allow audio rate osc-on-osc FM prOn, would make the Virus into a full blown epidemic, so to speak.

Yes same here, if anyone wants real harsh FM on a budget, the Blofeld is where it's at. Hard as nails sounds. Well mine sits rather nicely with my Polar It's a part of my new "minimalist" software setup. Poor old hardware, all boxed in the loft!!

Yeah I really do wish Access had implemented more FM stuff into the virus... but beggars can't be choosers
I think the fact is the virus already offers an amazingly wide range of sounds that you can achieve similar timbres to FM stuff using the wavetables and new distortion and ringmod stuff
obviously you cant create evolving FM pads ala the dx or nord lead 3/wave, but you can create some serious sonic destruction already
it seems we are so infected we just want more virus goodness haha

There is plenty we can do in terms of poking holes in speaker cones, placing rattly crockery in front of horns, or injecting Dr Sonix special earwax, if you want even more exotic distortion. Why pester those nice Access people for more lavish FM, until we have exhausted regular domestic analog modulation sources?

I would have thought FM on a budget was a DX7 or even better a TX81Z, I just sold a TX for less than £100 squids!
Solid bass, real 4 Operator FM & 8 note poly for under 100, hang on why did I sell mine.
