I have to admit Alex, that I went with the Marantz PMD620 over the M-Audio Microtrack II based purely on the brand name. Marantz have also been in the portable recorder business much longer than M-Audio.

I'll only be using the line inputs of the unit, I hear the mic pres on most of these budget recorders are average. You have to spend a lot more money to get decent pres on a portable recorder. I'll be using the PMD620 with my PSC Alphamix portable field mixer.

Hey! There's no need for poo slinging, you Aussie hooligan. How about you go stick that Marantz recorder up a rabbit's arse and have yourself a happy Easter?

So you've had it for a week now. What's the verdict, mang?

Keeper or future ebay item?

Good follow up Bro.

I'm defintiely keeping it, and that is said after only having about an hour total to mess with it since I bought it (final exams, peak of my job for the next few months, etc.)

The NL2 has a distinctively different SOUND and WORKFLOW than my Virus KC. Although some of the stock presets sound similar to those of the Virus, what I was able to make them do with some quick knob wrenching was decidely different than a similar effort on my KC, not better just different. I like the non-effected sound of the NL2, it can be very bright and pure or dirty and nasty with a punch.

Future eBAY items? I wish I could sell my neighbors and buy new ones. The cool ones are moving and the grumpy mean ones are staying. Looks like I'll have to play a concert for them this weekend...

I've had my eye on the rack version for a while now. I've got plenty to play with at the moment, but maybe picking one up someday.... second hand sounds appealing.

People swear by those things. Not only for the sound, but also the interface. I've always been curious, but there's no place around here to demo one. Only a bunch of guitar stores posing as "Music Stores" around here (Dayton OH area). Even the local "Guitar Center" is a complete joke. Just a bunch of Motifs and Fantoms and shit. Virus or a Little Phatty....... No way......Not in there. You can play with a Korg Radias though

Dayton Ohio, eh? Is "Cheesburgers and Beer" still open? I used to have an account at Wright Patterson AFB there in Dayton. Come to think of it, the last time I was there (1997) I contracted walking pneumonia!

Yeah Bro, from what I can tell the sound and the interface on the NL2 are both great. It's very well built like a Virus too (metal casing) but MUCH smaller (depth and overall bulkiness). The wooden pitch bend stick is pretty wacky too. I saw quite a few NL2 racks on eBAY, most looked to be in very good condition. I saw a NL3 rack with a slight ding in the chassis for $999, that was out of my league though, and I don't want a synth that's obviously been dropped anyway. I'll post a sample of it in a week or so once school tames down.

Yeah, "Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers" is still open. Still serving mediocre grub at moderate prices. The fish sandwich is pretty decent though, ironically better than their burgers!

If you ever come back around this way send me a PM. We'll go to "the Winds" for some real local cuisine. Best goddamn restaurant I've ever been to. I'm serious too. My favorite. Last month I had a porcini rubbed game hen that was unreal. I feel lucky to live so close.

They even have a dedicated pastry chef. I'm not one for desserts and sweets usually, but be warned: You'll wonder if your testosterone levels are normal 48 hours later when you're still craving the chocolate mousse with freshly whipped cream and whining like a little bitch for more apple cinnamon cheesecake.

Fucking-A unbelievable. I'll eat the hell out of fresh pastries, I'm half German, pastry is a food group over there, just like beer and Jagermeister. Nice menu on the website!

BTE, The NL2 basses are pretty damn good. They go "crunch."
