In general, "the girl next door" is a commonly used phrase to denote the average girl living next door, or at least in your close neighbourhood, that you grew up with and were maybe even attracted to.
The film didn't coin the phrase.  It just cashed in on the idea.I haven't seen the film, though, and judging by the title I don't particularly want to, either, lol.
