maybe manufacturers do this for when people audition them before buying?
It'll be because a lot of decent headphones take a hell of a lot of driving - my Sennheiser HD650's are barely audible via my Denon mini hifi, and my old pair (430's) are even harder. The TI drives them both no problem.

One thing i noticed between the 1st and 3rd virus kc i had was that the headphone output was a bit hotter....and alot less noise. A welcome improvement even back then (circa feb 2003)

The SynthWizard has some advice - Back in the 1980's music was better, TV was better, films were better. Not to mention fashion.... Let me help you relive the past with some classic 80's sounds from my vintage synth collection....

My comparrison in sound between the Virus headphone out and the RME headphone out was just for music played over the audio driver, no virus sounds or anything.

-edit-
Using the Asio driver for the TI at 32bit (max freq 48khz).
Slightly deeper bottom - had to realy feel the difference.
Tad less digi tops - like a bee's d#%$ difference.

Using the WDM driver for the TI 16bit max (up to freq 192khz)
Sounds slightly inferior at any sampling rate.
No detailed image.

Setup using Wavelab to play back audio files (16bit and 24bit files).
Using Voxengo Recorder plug to live stream 32bit to RME Fireface.
Hot plugging headphone outs to JVC Hybrid Amp and Akesis Monitor Ones.

Dont think so - I think the TI allwas operates at either 44.1 or 48 internally, they jus happen to use very high quality DACs that are capable of 192KHz, but arnt actually used at that rate.

I must admit - from their marketting blurb, I got the impression the internal sample rate was 192KHz.

Ive since heard its only 44.1K or 48K, in which case I am surprised as the TI filters sound alot smoother than I would have expected at that sampling rate.

I would be interested to know what the internal sample rate in the DSPs actuall is - just curious

I've already asket the internal bit resolution (56bits). Now, it's someone else's turn ^^
