I guess the only thing you could do is to stay at the orginal OS, and not update.
Or....Jump ship to apple  I did and have never looked back  I know what you mean though. I have some software that is not supported anymore (TC Works SparkXL) and if I want to keep using it it means I cant upgrade my Apple OS!
