Your impressions of the Andromeda? I have heard mixed reports - some say its a fine analogue poly, others, that it's slightly lacking in warmth and bass presence.

Now that would be a fun day!! I don't have any stores around me that carry any of that. I remember calling the local music shop (a pretty sizable place) and they were like "A virus what?"

My opinion of the Andromeda A6 is this:

In comparison to VA it sounds significantly better.....if traditional 'analog' type sounds are what your after. However, vintage analog poly it isnt.....and there *is* a distinct lack of warmth/presense.

So in real terms the A6 would be a better pick than a VA.....but its not quite as good as the oldies. This opinion is reflected by most people.

I liked it a lot, its very punchy. I was definatly pulling out lots of bass from the thing, maybe even more then the other synths I played with.

Personally I wasen't a huge fan of the effects that came with it, and I felt a little restricted with some of the parameters like LFO frequency etc.

I thought I was buying an Andromeda a couple of weeks ago. I spotted one advertised in the classifieds on Vintage Synth Explorer for 900 USD! I got really excited and mailed the guy. He wrote back saying that the Andy was still available but that he only accepted payment via Western Union. Of course the mention of Western Union fairly set alarm bells ringing.

The add's still there, I think.

Advert starts with "Bom! Psyhead is at your foot"

It could be genuine? He might have just done too much acid and wanted rid of the evil machine. "It's alive I tell you. Alive!"

Western Union....no way man stay clear. There is a scam with that at the moment. On the SOS (Sound on Sound) webiste, users have been warned not to do dealings through them. You pay for goods that never arrive. The price is dodgy too.

of the ones you listed, which one 'grabbed' you the most?
sounds like you had only a short time with each one, but which one would you most like to go back and use again?

to be honest, i was stoned and drunk out of my mind thru most of it cuz i was on vacation, but i went to two studios and one store (sam ash or something)

The Q+ was a trip to play with so it gets points for fun factor. I'd concider getting one.

The Virus C was a desktop and I loved how easily i was creating dark textures. I would have liked to have felt the full size desktop however.

The Andromeda seemed like it had lots of potential but again it seemed a bit limited (no pun intended).

The Nord 3 and the nord 2 are nice, but didn't grab me at all.

ps - this is coming from someone who has never owned a piece of outboard gear but has been making chunes for about 10 years. I tend to write darker stuff as well, if I wanted to make crisp clean alien bizarre tones the Nord 3 would rank a lot higher.
