Sounds like the controller and Virus are speaking different dialects of MIDI....
Maybe something simple......what about your MIDI connections? Controller MIDI out---------->Virus MIDI in (Obviously) and it should work How about settings on the Virus, or MIDI channel settings on the controller? Hope you sort it out  Merry X-mas!!!!!
