A ROMpler is a synth that has samples stored in ROM.
Rather than patches being stored in ROM where the sound is generated on the fly as with the Virus, a ROMpler does not generate sounds it just plays back prerecorded sounds. You then have the usual envelopes, filter, LFOs etc to modulate the sound, but the initial sound is predefined. Martyn
