I know exactly what you mean. Once my internet connection was down for a week. First i felt completly amputated from the world but then i began doing other stuff and when the week was gone i had almost forgot about it. I think that mankind from nature is good at adapting to new enviroments (also virtual enviroments). We feel that we can´t live without this and that but in short time we adapt to the new situation and live on. Maybe not such a bad ability
