Are household appliances coming back in vogue?

We used a sample that I took from the inside of a very old and rattly fridge on a wooden floor,
resampled it through crappy old FX units, this was then tuned, pitched down and filtered on a Roland S760 sampler.

It pretty much sounded like a unison "Hoover" synth, or so we thought. It got used on several tracks in the end 'cause it had a vibe.

Anyone else have unusual ideas for sound design to share?
