Yeah, I was a bit rash. I mean that its not a total rewrite. Its the apology for Vista but its not totally new like it appears to be.

I've heard from folks that Vista is the new Windows ME (fail) and Windows 7 is the new XP (win)

I'm looking forward to hearing news of the Virus working under Windows 7 with Ableton Live version 8.

With my new system on the way (i7), I'm looking forward to really gaining some performance from my old system (p4 3.0ghz)

I also run Win 7 on my machine, and its working fine.
To install the Virus on Win7 you need to run the setup with the Vista emulation. Everything but the Audio Driver will be installed by it.
Then just extract the content from the msi file and install the driver manually.
Works perfect for me!

Anyone used Windows 7 with a multitouch touchscreen display yet? If it works well, I can see Jazzmutant* going out of business overnight.

I have used every Microsoft OS since DOS 5. Windows ME is infinitely, infinitely worse than Vista. The reason most people hate Vista is because all the commands moved to a different place, creating frustration for users who considered themselves experienced.

XP is more stable than Vista, but I'd hardly be comparing Vista to ME.... that's really not fair on Vista at all. ME was an absolute scandal.

Also, some computer professionals (friends) whose opinions I trust have said that Windows 7 is looking great. :>

How does it compare with Ubuntu?

My windows installs are used much less these days - Wine has been good for that.

Not much experience with Ubuntu, to be honest. My overriding impression is that it's a _gorgeous_ OS, very user friendly and beautifully designed, not to mention extremely stable. Unfortunately it has massive compatibility issues as not many manufacturers make drivers/software to work on Linux distributions.

I put Win7 on my machine and spent SOOOOOOOOO much time making it look like XP that i finally said F it.

That, and some things just didnt work nicely (the TI worked after some effort, the midisport midi card sorta worked, etc)

I have to agree on that totally!!!
Linux is the best system you can get especially for Audio/Video applications...
Stable & Light...
Too bad about the compatibility issues
If only Ableton & Access gave us Linux drivers...
I'd be in heaven...hehehe
