So, here it is!

Interview with Marc Schlaile in the German Keys Magazine from January 2005:

Keys: Where are the advantages of the TI-Series in comparison to the earlier solutions?
M.S.: The TI goes much farer that a Virus C and conventional Midi- and Audioports can do.One of our goals was, makin the advantages of Softsynths accessable to Hardware. That?s why we created the VirusControl-PlugIn, whose help with the Virus is getting the Midi-Data.
All Soundadjustments will, as it?s in virtual Instruments, be stored with the Track.
The Circle?s closing, when you?re sending Subgroups to your Computer-System. It?s feeling like a real Software-Instrument in your Sequencer.

Another goal was, to open the I/O-Hardware in the TI for as many possibilities as possible., also the Audio- and MIDI-Interface for the system.
On the way you have a complete Ministudio with the TI and a Laptop.

Keys :Which Sequencers are compatible with the PlugIn and how?s it with the latency?
M.S.: We try to be compatible with every VST- and AU-Application. To get the best performance, the host should have Delay-Compension for PlugIns, because a delay on the way to the Virus and back is of course there. But most hosts have delay-Compensation or they?re working on that.
The connection Virus TI/VirusControl has a sample-accuracy timing.
We use the LTB-Protcol (Linear Time Base) , which is also used in Steinberg Midex 8.
So it?s sure, that a chord is not in single tones on after another as in Midi, but exactly at the point on the same time.

Keys: Which USB uses the TI?
M.S.: We use USB 1.1 with 12 Mbit speed, with full USB 2-Compability.
We have 4 Audiostreams at the moment, plus the possibility one Stereo- In and Out to use as an Audio-Interface.
In a later OS it will be possible to adjust the bandwith more flexible. So there might be 4 Stereo-Audiostreams from the Virus into the Computer-system, if you?re not using the Audio-Interface.

Keys: Is it possible to use other Audio-Interface next to the TI-PlugIn for recording?
M.S.: Most hosts can only use one Asio- or AudioCore-Hardware at a time. The same is with the Virus TI as an Audio-Interface. But it can be used as a PligIn in combination with other Audio-Interfaces.
We made our own driver a it sends our data a different way.

Keys: Will there be a cheaper rack-version of the TI again?
M.S.: It could be done. But we think, most of our customers like using the knobs and sliders. There?s no plan for that at the moment.

Keys: Will there be the Upgrade-possibility for former Virus users? What about PowerCore- and Pro-Tools-Versions?
M.S.: We can?t do that. We recommend, to give back older Viruses to the Shops, also to use Online-Auctions.
The Virus TI uses 2, with a very fast Bus, combined DSP. We have to find out, which aspects of the Virus-TI Soundsynthsis can be brought to the named DSP-Platforms.

I hope everyone understands that!

Marc

"We have 4 Audiostreams at the moment" <--- Does this mean that they plan to have more in the future?

What do you guys think?

Yeah, it does mean that :
They have now 4 Mono (or 2 Stereo)-Streams and in a future OS the will have 8 Mono (i think) and 4 Stereo-Streams, when you?re not using the Audi-Interface.

But I still don?t get why they just have USB 1.1!
USB 2 would have been much more effective (think of the amount of streams).
Someone on the Access-phone told me it would have been too expensive...
Hello??? I think everybody would pay a hundred $ more for maybe 10 Stereo-Streams (I heard 24 would have been possible with USB 2).

But I think they will wait for the TI-2 (or TI-XL...)

Regards

Marc

I just posted the same argument as you in the studio equipment discussion. . .

"Has anyone else been wondering why The USB2 spec is being picked up so slowly? It may cost extra money to put in a unit but I think people aren't going to mind paying for something that isn't already being outdatted. "

I dont get it either, but it would be nice!
