Default Replacing wooden end panels

Hallo :>

I am planning to buy a Virus TI Keyboard in January. I was wondering if any of you guys know if the wooden end panels are easy to remove and replace? I am considering comissioning a blacksmith to make some cool looking metal ones, which hopefully will survive the rigours of touring a bit better than wood..

Can anyone tell me how easy it is to remove the panels? Are there any pictures of detached panels around that I can send to the blacksmith? Has anyone tried replacing them before? :>

Thanks !

Interesting project, and I'd love to see the result if/when you come to do it.

I don't have a TI, but if it's anything like my Indigo it should be modular. The keybed is one module (very easily removed by unscrewing certain screws on the underside of the chassis), the cheeks are separate (again accessible from underneath, from the chassis, and also via a couple of screws at the rear), the fascia (including all the rear jack sockets) is another module, and all these modules are held into place by the chassis via a good few screws on the underside.

The Blacksmith emailed me:

Quote:
Dear [my name],

I'd definitely be interested in designing something for you. Would you be able to email a few pictures of the band etc so I can get an idea of the sort of image you want?
Then I'll have a think about a design and get back to you in a week or so with a design and price.

Thanks
[his name]
We pondered for a while about what to send. We thought about just sending pictures of the band members. In the end though, we sent these 4:

This image possibly not safe for work! (it's not porn, though..)

And also a link to this graphic designer's webpage.

So yus. Hopefully he will feel free enough with the whole artistic licence thing to create something awesome.. :>

Lol, looks like he's got his work cut out for him, but should be interesting to watch.

Annikk, regards disassembling the TI, email these guys:

http://www.synthesizerservice.de/index.php?lang=en

.. they are the hardware branch of Access Music. Ask kindly how to disassemble the TI, and they should hopefully send you a few pictures of how you would do so (including the screws that need unscrewing for each part, etc.).

They kindly did so for me (for a Virus Indigo) when I wished to exchange some pots. (Example shown below)

[Step 1]
[Step 2]
[Step 3]
[Step 4]
[Step 5]

Bear in mind that opening up the Virus may also void the warranty (there are 2 circular warranty labels/seals that need to be broken to gain access to the innards. See pic 1, above, on either side.)

Thanks Timo! :>

I already emailed Access about this, I guess I should wait for a reply from them before emailing those other guys. Good to know, though :>

why do my replies never wrk on these site?

anyway. I had said.

the only thing i didnt like abt the virus ti when it came out were the wood end pannels. had always planned to take them off and get them dipped or something.

or even get all the wood in my studio varnised to match. my allen & heath desk has a god awful colour ends too. makes no point now. unless they come off too.

in waiting on results.

The synth arrived at 4pm on the 31st. :>
It's so awesome. I tried to go through all the preprogrammed patches to listen to them all and play around with them, but there are thousands... so I stopped somewhere towards the end of Bank D.

Going through the manual now and learning how to program this beasty :>

I've not heard from the Blacksmith for a while now. I will call him on Monday.

Hi first post here, i used to be on that other forum which died. access was kind enough to point me here.

anyways i replaced the wood ends on my virus.

i used some corian i happened to have. anyways it is very easy if you have tools. and the end caps themselves make great templates for where to put the screw holes.
