Default Akai MPC-1000/2000

Hey,

Just wandering if any of you out there have either of these, and can give me some idea of how good/usefull they actually are?

A friend of mine is able to get me a brand new one at half the retail price, which I think is a pretty damn good deal, but not sure if it will be the MPC1000 or MPC2000.

Should I bother? Is it just gear lust? Or is this a deal not to pass on?

I currently use Cubase SX, HALion VST, Reason 2.5, Virus RackXL, and Motif Rack.

I was under the impression that these were mainly for live use, are they usefull in the Studio? Is it worth going for the MPC1000 as it has USB. Will it bring back a live element into my Studio? How does it sync with software sequencers?

Any comments are greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Jase

Half price? I say go with it. Just dont buy an MC 909. You'll get bored pretty fast, I'm about to auction mine off for an MPC.

hey I own a MPC 2000xl and its like my favorite shit. the sound is amazing, hard with thump. but be prepared to have a hand full of old records to sample from because its pointless with out them. in terms of wether its a 1000 or 2000 or 2000xl is a big factor. the 1000 is cool but small and the editing fuctions on it are hard almost impossible, you really need to have a software editer to cut samples up then load them into the mpc1000. but its nice because you can travel with it, also if your like me the pads are everything. the 2000 is a lot older and can have some problems with the os but still a great peace of kit and sound, you can pick one up for like 500 bucks on ebay so becarefull. the 2000xl is a great peice of kit. has one of the newest os for it.and is a joy to work with, just ask pete rock or dr dre. one thing you need to take into consideration is that is sampling a big part of your production, Im mostly sample based and the mpc is a main part of my productions, I'd be lost with out it . if you want the best sampler out there then the mpc range is the way to go. if you want to talk with more people about wether its right for you check out http://www.mpc-forums.com

this is all my just my opion though

peace

Thanks for the info boys!

Will need to really decide whether or not it is a necessary investment. Hard to figure out what to spend your hard earned cash on

Hey jase ,
I've got an mpc1000 and it's just super quick and real fun to work with compared to the other stuff around like cubase etc...
Just load some samples and start banging.
I've got a link to a nice video , it's with an mpc2000xl but you can do it with a mpc1000 too.

Thanks Fasttracker!

Unfortunatley, the deal went sour. My friend was working for a company that distributes Akai, and they recently lost the distribution deal, so they had some items in the warehouse, but they only had some portable digital recorders/mixers left......not what I was interested in!

Thanks for the info though...I may still look at getting one in the future
