i think heavy compression is needed aswell to get "that" sound.

Yep, heavy compression will turn any VA, Rompler or sampler into a bagpipe sound.

Hoho.

Essential is to get that reedish sound and when the base sound is ok the final touch is gained by pitch envelopes to create that "glitch" of a bagpipe.

This is along the lines of the way I'd aproach the sound too. I'd probably multi-sample a set of pipes that I could get a clean loop from (only of the tail though), then I'd work on the envelopes to mimick the bagpipe. I would attach evelope amounts to things like velocity and after touch to try and get the horrid nueance of the instrument.

Definitely the first time I've heard of someone trying to get a bagpipe sound digitaly! I'd be keen to hear what sort of tunes you guys are making actually.
