Who uses layered sounds?

hi!

i know it is not an easy thing to do, has anyone created few layered patches ? what is the technique behind it? any tips&tricks?

i do it on the nord a fair bit.....

usually using pads.....very nice for playing dense elvolving pads live...

most of the time (when i venture into this teritory) one patch will have a slow attack and the other may have a faster attack.....same goes with the release too...i usually have one patch an octave higher than the other too...the 2 sounds are often quite similar....

one prob doing this with the nord 2 though...is trying to match
lfo speeds...

having said all this though...the nord only has 2 osc...

cant' the lfos be synced to the tempo ? why do u have to match them?

yeh it can...but it has no internal global bpm type clock....

the only time i really want to use layered sounds, is when i dont have the benifit of layering in a seqeuncer....playing along side someone else for example....

i would only use layered sounds if say maybe i wanted to have one sound that is a short stabby type sound and one that has a longer decay...just an example...something of the sort...I think what u can do is just try matching various sounds together and after awhile u will start hearin certain sounds, sounding good together...once u got that its all about ear training and practice...its not all that hard but u have to know what u want b4 u can even venture...i was going to make layered sounds on my soundset but decided against that because not every1 would use the sounds together and they might sound like crap solo...

well, everytime you're using more than one oscillator, you are, in effect, using a layered sound.....I'm sure everyone generally uses more than one oscillator.

Layering patches is just one step more...

im sorry and i dont mean to sound like an ass but...thank u captain obvious ...not quite the layered idea we r talkin about u cant quite get completely different sounds out of one synth patch...yet there is also no point on using 2 synth patches with the same sound or a variation u can get out of adding another osc...

oh just incase u didnt laugh at that it was a joke...

sounds do get richer/thicker in my opinion....really though, the only benifit is live use....its easy to layer sounds in your sequencer, but its nice to be able to play them live...

but how can you play all different midi parts in the same channel? i dont think you can do that
