Default Why do I love the Filters on the VC?

This is why....

Go to the Soundclick link in my signature and play "Heavy Electronic 1 and 2" (2 is the better one I rekon).

The sounds I have created here are by far the most fun sounds to play I have ever made. I'm getting nothing done coz I just end up jamming! They're so agressive to play that I end up beating the crap out of my controller keyboard

I took a short 2 second sample from Slayer2 and looped it. Then I programmed some harsh FM sounds on the Nord and a bass on the CS10. I ran these sounds through my valve pre together, but I effected the Nord seperately first. Then these sounds all went into the VC for filtering and FX. The final sound coming from the VC was effected with an amp sim and distortions.

I really like the Hi-passed version (Heavy electronic 2) as it's easy to filter using the VC until just the Nord FM remains.

Tell me what you think.

By the way, I played these live with no sequencer or computer-automation. So try not to be harsh on the playing itself .

You caught me at a bad time dude, i have just pulled apart my system to hook up the studer so I am audio-less for a while......I will take a listen when Im back up and running....

Do I sense some sort of nostalgia/loyalty to the KC with all this talk of Ti around??? Or maybe Virus jealousy The Ti is getting all the attention

Edit: OK I couldnt resist...I hooked everything up quickly. Heavy sound 2 is definately better. I really like these sounds. Aggressive, dirty, phat, everything I would want in a sound. I really need to experiment more and stop relying on mildly tweaked presets!!!

Awesome HC!

Hehehe, maybe. But the TI has the same filters anyway I think. The main reason I put these up was because I can't stop playing them. The VC filter adds sooo much to these sounds that it's appropriate to put links to them here.

Yep, this is the one Timo. Definitely worth a look. On it's own it's a little thin in most cases though. But layer it with some nice synth, warm it with a valve then filter it......

I used the Cosm amp sims from the VF-1 for these sounds if you're wondering though.

Thanks for listening guys!

Interesting clips HC. The filters of the Virus rip the Nords to shreds. The Virus filters are my favourite digital filters out there. Nothing comes close. Most VA filters have shite soundign resonance...but the virus' resonance is almost as nice as a true analog classic.

I was playing on a nord 2 the other day. It kinda feels a bit dated to me know...not sure why.

The SynthWizard has some advice - Back in the 1980's music was better, TV was better, films were better. Not to mention fashion.... Let me help you relive the past with some classic 80's sounds from my vintage synth collection....

Remember though DS, you are the guys whoes into 80's sounds.

As far as the Nord sounding dated though.....No way! If the Nord wasn't there with-in these clip, they wouldn't have the life that they do. The nord is still a beast I would never sell it.

this is not a particularly educated or grown up response to the original question but it offers some insight into why the filters on the virus rock. if you put yourself in the brain of a kid with a new mind blowing toy

they make this WEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW kind of sound when you sweep them and sometimes with the distortion up it turns into a scream kinda like SCCCHCHHHHHHWWWWWAAAAAAAAHHHH. twiddle the semi tone rotary furiously whilst opening the filter cutoff and you can turn most sounds into dying machine noises. and its all really smooth.

id have to toss a coin to see whether my virus b was a better toy on first impressions than megatron was on my tenth birthday. ive since wrecked megatron in a battle with optimus prime, so the virus and its filter section probably wins based on the fact it has a higher chance of still working after crashing it down a flight of stairs.
