I can't believe no one's mentioned the best thing about your saw:

PURE ANALOG!

Yup cold and dry would be the best. It'll definitely be heading for the sampler.

Maybe you should start a little thread to see what people can make out of it. You post the dry sample, then everyone post the clips that they create from it. Just an idea for a little bit of fun.

Man, I have no idea how you'd mic up a Saw!

This would be a good one for Jase I'd reckon.

a pair of small diaphragm condensers in XY would probably get the job done, but a pair of ribbons in blumlein would probably set it off...

i would rather plug the Saw into a nice DI box and use some amp simulation for it.

I have no idea what you are talking about. The only mic got is an ADK Generis GC-1 condenser (picture here). It does the job for my purposes and that?s about it. I?m not a recording guy and know very little of this. The only question is where to place the goddanm mic. I?ve seen photos of a guy that had the top of a mic stand mounted through the hole on the edge of his saw. Maybe this is the approch. I don?t know. Actually i don?t have a clue

Oh, well, experimentation is the main thing for mic placement. You could get cool effects by doing weird stuff: Playing the saw in a shower or tiled bathroom and set up an ambient mic, or you could hang a metal garbage pail around the mic, with the opening facing the saw. Those would both give you some strange reverb effects.

Aah, so the answer is "experiment". I can do that I doubt that my cables are long enough to reach the bathroom though
