Check this out - I've written it on Virus including the bass, which is quite phat to me. Of course I've done some mastering after to make it punchier, but still... I really doubt there's a bass sound you couldn't reproduce with a Virus and a few mastering/eq plugins...

Bit confused by this thread.
How could you NOT get the bass sound you desire from a keyboard of this capability.
Are users just browsing the presets and hoping that tweaking the filter q will do the trick ?
Do any of the 'dance' crowd actually know how to program any more ?

I hear ya, but I also am in the position to have a Virus,a Yamaha CS-10, and a Roland SH-2 at my disposal, and I must say, that the Virus doesnt touch the vintage analogues when it comes to really thick, tasty bass.

The Virus can 'do' bass....all synths can do bass - its just that true analog monosynths do it alot more convincingly.....and since bass is one of those aspects which can sell a million records (well back in the 80's it did)....then I suggest you seriously look into getting a dedicated bass synth. By all means use a virus for bass....but I'd take THESE type of bass sounds over anything a virus could make....

All subjective opinion at the end of the day

Definitely a nice bass sound - but for my own sanity Id have to use a real analog for that duty....because in real terms I know it would be better. But thats just me....dance music does not necessarily need it

Its not as good as the old stuf? Did you read the sos review? Sounds like it is "the" bass synth...

And what about Dave Smiths Evolver? It is also relativly new, but it uses the same filters as in hes old analog synths... Are the envelopes as fast as the pulse?

The oscilators and filters in the Pulse are a little sterile sounding (as far as true analogs go). Still very nice....but its not in the same league and vintage synths. 99% wont give a shit....but some of us do
