Default Tube compressor for a poor man!

Any of you guys had any experience with this thing from behringer?

http://www.behringer.com/02_products...TOKEN=17990786

I don't have an out-board compressor at the moment and I'm getting sick of crushing in the computer.

If you know of something similar that I should look at, please let me know.

Well, I haven't had experience with that compressor; but remember that compression is one of the few areas that are truly handled better "in the box." Do you have the Waves C1 compressor? If you do, that's about the best you can hope for, in terms of hardware or software, until you're in the $3000.00 range looking at something like the Focusrite Red 3.

Like I say, I don't have experience with THAT compressor; but all the Behringer stuff I've been around has always sounded less than flattering (e.g.- a little noisy, especially), so I, personally (not saying everyone should), have tried to stay away from that company...with one exception: the Ultra-G direct-injection box seems to be o.k. And I hear their newer monitors are a good value..

thanks for the feedback panopticon!

yeh, i am running the waves stuff and i think its pretty good - its just i want an outboard compressor for 1: compressing before the recording stage (specially when recording live instruments), and 2: when doing some live stuff....

ive read a little more on this particular compressor and many people seem to say the tube side is more of a gimic than anything else....sounds more like an exciter than anything else...but everyone seems to say the compression itself is quite good for the money...

as far as it being behringer...i dont trust all their gear for sure...i had virtualizer pro a few years back and got rid of it quick smart...but i have had some success with behringer gear too...im using a mixing desk from them and the thing is really solid and ive had it for years!

im actually reading up on the dbx range at the moment...some interesting gear with them...mmm choices...

i may just try the behringer because of the cost...i wont loose much money if i want to get rid of it....i will study a bit more before i commit though...

if anyone else knows any other brands or types, let me know.

Behringer used to suck a few years ago, but recently they have begun to be top notch, providing excellent gear at reasonable prices, unlike other vendors.

Since you mention dbx, we used to use tons of dbx stuff in the studio I worked at; it was always excellent stuff...

Default RNC

check out the FMR Audio RNC (Really Nice Compressor). its about $180 USD or so and is AWESOME. regularly gets reviews that compare it to the $1k+ compressors.

also as far as DBX, i use the 386 dual channel tube pre and i really like it's sound. i think they have one, the 387 or something like that, which is the mono version of the 386 that has a whole channel strip, including compression, in it
