Default strange distortion when using ring modulator

i have virus Ti desktop, and use it as VST with ableton. problem is when im using ring modulator im experiencing something like random distortions on sound. when ring modulator is on lower values this unwanted sounds disappear, but course whole idea for sound then changes. course this is problem is present in number of patches, and mostly i play them as chords. also, im not using distortion effects in this patches.
is this normal thing for ring modulator, or i can do something to avoid this problem?

The ringmod ads a distortion type sound.

Default Ring modulation

Hi,

Read this first:

http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_modulation

Now experiment with the ring modulator by only using pure sinewaves in both oscillators. See how the modulation alters the sound when one or both oscillators is pitched up or down (both course and subtle) and whether osc sync makes any sense.

Ring modulation has some relation with FM and just like fm, if you are using waveforms other than sinewaves, the sound rapidly becomes very harsh and unpleasant.

The intensity of ring modulation can in turn be controlled by an envelope or lfo (set this up in the mod matrix) to create some snappy effects.
