Default Synthesis Help

Hi, I was wondering if any1 on this forum know of any websites which offer tutorials on producing dark (hard-ish) trance?

I started out using soft synths but found that I could not recreate the sounds that are being produced in clubland at the moment. This led me to buy an Access Virus C thinking that this would solve all my problems, but I still cannot seem to recreate the sounds I am aiming for.

I would be grateful if I could also get advice on what outboard gear to buy that would help me produce the sounds I am striving for.

I know this is pretty vague, but it would great if someone could point me in the right direction.

Thanx in advance

I don't know any tutorials but I can say that Virus C can create the sounds you're looking for.

Its all about knowing your own gear..

My old Casio-synthesizer can sound Psy-trance if i really tweak it

Thompsy, can you be a bit more specific as to what you're after?

This is my tutorial:

Take your manual. Start reading it from the beginning (yes, read, looking at the pictures isn't enough when you're grown up) and try everything that is mentioned in the manual. For example if manual says "turning cutoff knob will change cutoff" you turn cutoff knob and listen to how the sound changes.

Go throught the whole manual and you don't have to ask everything obvious things here as most people seem to do.

After you've done my tutorial download the tutorial from Access site and go through it.

After you have read the manual you could download some of Manuel Schleiss's sounds, they sound very good as they are but they are also very educational on what to tweak to get those hardtrance sounds.

Also if you're into even harder/ruffer styles, check out the Icon Of Coil signature set on Access website. Nice use of distortion on those.
