Default How to programme G funk

Please someone give me some tips on making those G funk lead noises Dre and snoop used to use.
Im using a sine wave and playing it high up but i dunno what else i need to do to make it sound better.
esp as virus c doesnt have portamento!
any tips?

Virus has protamento. Go under the edit menu and it is under COMMON.

I don't think those are sine waves because you can clearly hear wah-wah style filter modulation on them [which won't work with sines].

Off the top of my head, I would try a sawtooth with the cutoff down maybe halfway. Use the filter envelope to open the filter at the beginning of the note. And yes, loads of tasty portamento!

I reckon a seventies sound like that wouldn't be all that complex so you could probably get quite close quite quickly. But I'm kind of guessing about that.
