I use virus control almost exclusively.
The only times i use the virus as a standalone is when im testing the VC beta software, and for whatever reason VC breaks and i need to get something recorded.

at this point I never use the VC. I find the whole technology to be unstable... and generally useless as max/msp isn't supported as a host (or DP, the daw I use).

I am actually happy with this... as I find that I have been making more interesting sounds as I design them more by ear than by interface.

I am thinking if you are using VC Control most of the time, don't need the multitimbral parts that a snow may be a wise choice

I use VC every once in a while as a librarian -- to organize RAM banks. Otherwise, I use it exclusively standalone.

I found VC to be a good visual tool to assist in learning synthesis because of the quality and logic of the layout.
