Default virus c multi mode

hi,
i've found a good deal for a virus c,
i have ever wanted it so i think i will buy.
I'd like to have a feedback about this:
because i use an hardware analog sequencer that has
8 midi channels patterns, i will use the virus mainly multitimbral.
So, is it fast going from multi to single mode,
switch between channels and edit single sounds?
And, do the voices go down when used in this mode?
Thanks in advance.

One push at a button You can also press "single" and "multi" together to use the multisingle mode. Multisingle mode works the same way as multimode except that you can edit a part as if you where in single mode and then switch to another part with the "part" buttons and edit this etc.

As said above, use multisingle mode and switch between the channels with the "part" butoons.

Yes and no. The total number of voices availeble is the same in multi/multisingle mode as in single mode but since you intend to use it multitimbral you will of course have more parts playing at once and these parts will each take up voices as they where in single mode.

Example: Virus is set to multi/multisingle mode and 3 parts/channels are playing at the same time. Part/channel 1 is using 4 voices, part/channel 2 is using 8 voices and part/channel 3 is using 6 voices. The total number of voices used is 18.

So if you mean "does the total number of voices go down by using multi/multisingle mode" the answer is no but if you mean "does the number of voices used increase when using more part at the same time" the answer is yes.

Depends of the parts you use. Parts with heavy unison will eat up voices fast but it?s not a big deal. You can always turn the unison down if it becomes a problem. Also if the third oscilator is on on some parts or if you use the vocoder it will eat more voices. You also need to think in number of sounds playing at the same time instead off number off part.

Example 1: You have a bass drum going every on-beat and a bass going on every off-beat without any overlaps. In this case you actually only use one part at a time. No worries...

Example 2: You have a 3 note cord on a fat unison pad going all the time with a bass with long notes and 2 appegiators plus drums running with overlaps all over. You might in this case consider that you may run out of voices.

You can always set the LED-mode to "steal". In this mode the LFO-LEDs will flash if your voices are maxed out (and it has to steal voices). I?m not sure but i think that you also can set high or low priority to a part. This way it will always steal voices from parts with low priority first if you are maxed out of voices.

Onkel is right...You can set priorities, which is pretty cool. The algorythm is pretty good.

Yep having priorities setup really is it's saving grace. Running 8 parts would be pushing things a bit though I reckon - specially if you have big pads runnning on one of the parts.

Just in case you don't know too. You can't have seperate reverb/delay running for each part. It works as a send effect over all the parts.

So how much is this C going for?

My hardware sequencer is analogue style,
it is monophonic but can be polyphonic,
so it sends mainly one note for step.
It's the P3: www.sequentix.com
Btw I'd like to know if adding oscillators or effects
can reduce the number of voices.

I also have other questions:

i've been really addicted to software synths,
so i'd like to use an editor for the virus c.
I've seen there's sound diver, but is it free?
or requires an xkey?
I'm on mac osx, and use ableton live as sequencer,
i've also seen midiquest, that has a plugin vst,
anyone tryed this successfully as vst?

Last thing, i'm studying how to manage the presets.
I know there are a lot avaiable on the net,
so i'm asking:
if i load a new bank, choose a sound from this,
can i save it and then import another bank,
or the first bank has to be ever loaded into the virus?

Thanks again guys, you are very helpful.
