Default Useful distortion settings?

I'm having difficulty finding anything in the distortion section that is remotely musical or useable. Can anyone recommend some settings to try? :>

I'm particularly interested in heavy distortion for bass sounds.

Yes, this is my experience of it too. There are occassions where I find it's just right, but these are comparatively rare. I hope the new ones in OS3 are a bit better.

I'm glad it's not just me then! I was starting to worry that I had a faulty unit or something :P

Anyone had a shot on the new distortion sounds? What are they like? Is there anything like overdrive or tube emulation or similar? (i saw a list of the new ones but it mostly had confusing names like "wide"..)

Also, on the subject of distortion... has anyone ever tried running a Virus through a Thermionic Culture Vulture? :> It will more than likely be my next major purchase..

the only one i come back to is the 'pwr stack' patch in bank M by markus schultz(?). stangely enough it doesnt use the distortion effect but the ring mod and filter section distortion.

theres a little more variety in os3 but still not the type of distortion im looking for.

No, but I've sampled a virus and put it through the ESX-1's tubes and that sounds lovely.

Marc, generally soft and fuzzy old fashioned distortion that adds a bit of crackle/artifacts and hiss is what I like.
