Default Sounddiver problems

Hey all,

when I got my Virus B and installed Sounddiver everything worked fine.

After a while (and numerous MIDI-device changes etc.) Sounddiver fails to load. It manages to start the app, show the splash screen, and the it just dies. At least, the window closes but the SoundDiver Virus.exe is still resident.

This happens in any hardware configuration, with all MIDI interfaces disconnected, or various interfaces connected, anything really.
Several re-installs did not help.

This is the bundled version of Sounddiver on XP, btw.

Has anyone encountered this problem? Or does anyone have a list of registry-settings changed/used by Sounddiver, as I have the feeling it reads "old" config variables and crashes on them.

Thanks in advance.

Anyone ever encountered this problem?

I think if you do a search for "sounddiver" on the forum, you'll find many people who have had trouble with it. Some people hate it with strong passion and some people think it's great - personally I've never used it and never will.

Knobs are there for twisting and the sequencer can handle the transfering. Maybe I'm just getting old.

I read a lot of the Sounddiver related posts, but I haven't spotted one which describes my problem or even comes near it.

Should've mentioned that in my post, sorry.

Main reason I want to use sounddiver is the librarian functions and added to this the fact that my studio is rather small and it breaks my back to edit the Virus (which is *huge* and can't be placed in front of me) by twisting the knobs.

Thanks for the reply though.

Ive heard nothing but horror stories regarding windoze version of sound diver. Works flawlessly on the mac.

I never use sound diver for editing, but i do use it for a librarian all the time.
Recently though i've switched over to MidiQuest XL because it actualy works as a VSTi inside cubase/sonar, and has a nameserver to update the patch names in cubas/sonar. Of course, it aint free..

Thanks Chinard,

I did give MidiQuest XL a spin, but found the program unintuitive. It's supposed to be able to do a lot of fancy tricks I really need (seeing as I use Live and have a need for Sysex and NRPN sending/recording).

Have you ever used it for this purpose?

I bought SD 3.0 second hand on ebay for my XP setup and Virus (not to mention the Korg MS2000 and more). Seeing as it was only $30 it was money well spent. I'm able to catalog and load just fine. Initially I had to learn the ropes of the older eMagic interface, but once I got that going, it was fine.

I'm in the process of developing templates/libraries for the Voyager and my Nord as well...anyone have any starter libraries?).

/Bodie
