Default The Pink Floyd Sound

Hey!

Just wandering which synth was used to make those wonderful brass sounding pads and leads that are so synonimous with the Pink Floyd sound...

Im thinking it is a SC Prophet, but maybe I am wrong....Oberheim maybe?

Cant really post a link, hope someone knows what I am talking about. Can the Virus get close to these sounds.

Cheers,

Jase

Jase.....what albums or songs are you specfically referring too?

There weren't many poly synths around during pink Floyds day....when did they stop? 1977?

Could always be multitracked moog modulars doing brass...

But I need you to give me a year and an album. I have most of their stuff.

The SynthWizard has some advice - Back in the 1980's music was better, TV was better, films were better. Not to mention fashion.... Let me help you relive the past with some classic 80's sounds from my vintage synth collection....

It is used on most albums, but in particular, "Wish You Were Here"...

On the song wish you were here there is a subtle brass pad, and in Shine on you Crazy Diamond, there are some brass leads...

I think the year was 1975....I guess that will help narrow it down.

Any idea which more modern synths will get close?

I watched Blade Runner the other day, lots of DX7 sounds....Im very tempted to get one

Wish you were hear......nice album that when your chilling to some cold beers. Yep, 1975...that makes it easier....as there were practically no polysynths around back then. I'll go listen to the album now and get back to you....but im thinking its possible some kinda organ through effects or a Yamaha GX-1.

Blade Runner is a film soundtrack unlike any other.....to this day it still sounds timeless. Amazing synth sounds and composition. However, vangelis worked on it during 1981....a few years before the first DX7 rolled off the production line. If you check this clip out of the maestro himself....you may recognise some of the sounds from the film....CS80 cross modulation by the sounds of it.

Look at the video here >> http://www.arturia.net/samples/videos/vtmahm.mpeg

Cheers DS...

Interesting regarding the Blade Runner score....I could've sworn it was DX sounds.

Hmm.....Just found that the Floyd used something called EMS VCS3, but I dont think it was for brass type pads, mainly for wierdo industrial noise type synth FX.

Hmmm.....Also noticed that the Mellotron gets credit on some Pink Floyd albums.

GMedia do a M-Tron VSTi which I might check out sometime....

Cool!

Found a patch on the VC that is very similar to what I am looking for. It is in bank D, patch 98.

It goes from brass pad to lead when you play with the modulation.

AHhhh.....satisfying!
