Default I'm finding trance music very boring these days....

Not just trance.....but most electronic genre's im hearing the same sequences and same-ish sounds. God, we need some new synth technology on the market and some proper musicians....

Just an observation....

I don't think you're listening in the right places, DS!

Do you listen to ASOT (A State Of Trance) with AvB on thursday nights?

Agreed DS!

The genre(s) are at an all time staleness.

It seems to me that maybe it should be put to rest for a few years until it gets close to its period of becoming "retro" and hence cool again. Then, maybe newer technology and some new minds will pick up the trail and blaze forward on it.

If you think about it, all music gets novel in 20 year cycles.

In the 80s kids were infatuated with the 60s.

In the 90s the 70s were hip.

Now in the 00s the 80s are experiencing new found coolness.

It seems to me that Electronica is next, but I could be wrong if Heavy Metal or Hip Hop beat it to the punch.

I think HM and HH are dead too BTW...

I personally enjoy the electronic synth music of the 80's and early 90's alot more than the stuff of the past 10 years. In about 10 years from now...I'll probably discover alot of pop and dance music which sounds cool that I totally wrote off today. I think music of the time sounds too cliched....but like good wine...matures with age.

If I was back in the 80's I probably would have thought most of Depechemodes stuff to be a bit boring and tiring on the ears. But listening to it now...i just love all those Vince Clarke riffs and DX7 stabs.

* I listen to alot of you guys trance efforts....and whilst I respect your efforts....it just doesn't do much for me.

I agree with you slightly DS. A lot of trance these days is pretty stale as you say and like you I'm getting totally into a lot of the 80's electronic. But I'm a techno/trance head at heart hell I still listen to the odd bit of hardcore and gabba when I'm in the mood, anyway there is still some good trancey stuff out there. You should check some of the stuff coming from Electric Kingdom, a lot of it is a kind of techno/trance on an 80's synth vibe. I'm a particular fan of Lexy and K-Paul these days.

While we are on the subject, any recommendations on 80's synth bands to check out other than the usual depeche mode, new order stuff.
