Default Potential Buyer Asking a Few Questions

Hi All

I've been reading this forum with much enthusiasm for a while now.

Basically, I play and compose in an alt.rock band, and synths are a big part of our set up.

I've tried out pretty much everything out there, considered a Minimoog, but after hearing the Virus TI, I just love it for leads, pads, and general dirty sounds that just come out of it beautifully.

Primarily, it will be used as a performance instrument playing live.

However, I was also looking at getting the most out of the recording side of it.

Reading all of these utter horror stories recently, I'm shocked and appalled by what I hear, as to my ears, there is simply nothing out there with the richness in sound that the TI has. It is simply beautiful for everything, including the polyphonic Moog emulation that I so desire.

What would people advise? Is it worth waiting til the elusive 1.1 arrives, or start trying out close alternatives?

Any comments, much appreciated. Regards.

wait for 1.1 as the Ti is still the best Synth around

I was a long time reason user, and then came into POWERCORE VIRUS the soft synth aspect (similar to virus b I understand), yet same rich sounds.....

From a recording point of view, you'll have the tc/works plugins as well.....
powercore virus, midi wise works great, I automate with an oxegen 8, and it's seemless.....draw back is I'm running a titanium powerbook 800, the "bare minimum" suggested to run virus powercore, and it shows!!!

I bought the ti keyboard, and the bugginess made me insecure to own it until the os is resolved, so I returned it. But it is the most fantastic sounding synth that all other's are to be compared to....

my humble opinion.......

Default Thanks

Thanks for the responses.

I agree - I basically need three things: Soaring Minimoog style leads, really evoking pads, and the ability for it to growl.

With the numerous hours I've spent on the machine, I simply cannot fault it. It's a beautiful piece of equipment, and at the current OS version, I think it'd serve me well live.

However, for the money, I'd like to see all features work.

I think I'll hold out for that OS update, and then see what the alternatives are at the time. But to me, the Korg/Roland/Nord stuff isn't anywhere near it.

The only other synth I really like is the Dave Smith Polyevolver.

Or failing that, the Studio Electronics SE1X, which is great, but sadly monophonic!

I had exactly the same in my mind before I got my TI.

Unfortunately I didn?t check this place out before....regarding TIs..well... issues.

Whatever.....I needed Great solo sound, fat pads and cool arps and I must say. The TI got it.

Like you, I was thinking of a MiniMoog....well...its monophonic for one thing.
How cool it ever sounds...for me this is a no-go.

(Maybe Ill get one in the future ).

I also looked into Creamwares Minimax a little bit, but I never played it.

My advice...If you can wait a little longer. Wait for the new OS to come. The check this forum again.

This is really the place to know if things are GREAT or they SUCK.

Believe me...

Default Vocoder

That was another question I had - does the TI have a vocoder? If so, is it of a high standard?

It does have a vocoder, although not many people use it. I gather it's hard to get a good sound out of it.

I am one of those "not many people" (how would you know that, exactly?) that use the vocoder from time to time.

It isn't really that difficult to use and it sounds like a eh.. vocoder!

The manual explains the different functions available when the vocoder is used in a program.
