Default My first 'proper' track hehehe

Made with a m8 of mine. I did most of the sound design and some of the writing. Its amazing how midi can make something simple sound more sophisticated.

Comments welcome.

It surely sounds like Reason in action - I can't really say anything about the "mastering"/whatever since even my cheap phones is broken now and all I hear is snap, crackle & pop whenever I turn up the volume.

I don't like the vocalsample since you really hear when it stops if you know what I mean by that.

I like some of the sounds that you DS (?) programmed?

Hi DS,

As this is your first real track, I'll give you a little more of a harsh review.

The track itself isn't too bad. Some interesting sounds and the composition isn't too bad as well (for this sort of genre). Good progression with some interesting sections for sure.

Drums - formulatic and a little dull for me. Like the break section, but ultimately it's still a loop.

Synths - Some nice sounds, although there are many which aren't the Virus. What synths did you use. A few sounds are a little on the thin side (can't tell if it's how it's been recorded or not).

Vocal - Not into using samples like that really. Own vocals are the only way to go now days. I've mentioned that to a few people recently.

Production - the whole track is a little boxy honestly. What software did you use?

All in all mate, not a bad track. Definite possibility! Try to stray away from the forular a little more (specially with those drums) and you would have a nice track here.

Cool song,

Im not really into trance but if I were I would have been sucking on a lollypop and breaking out the glow stix!

My only gripe is that vocal sample! It ruins the whole track....not because of the fact it is a sample, but because, as 303 said, you can hear it end too abruptly.

If you take the sample, and add some more space on the end of it (silence), and then process it with reverb/delay, and then fade that out, I reckon it will sound pretty darn good!

Nice one!

Jase

Its not a great song....but it was fun making it! It would have been alot different if it were upto me.....heheh more 80's sounding. Yes most of it was coming from reason (For practicality - but its a really dull program imho)....this mp3 contains factory presets from reason I think. My m8 did not want my 80's sounds from Virus in there. Bastard! Would have sounded alot better!!

Yes the vocal bit was naff........not my idea.

You guys have commented on the thinness in sound......well im not suprised cos its coming from a computer based softsynth.

Ive decided not to do another track with my m8.....I have a diferent style to him. But it was a fun track to do.

Thx for yuor comments. Ill be sure to let him know aswell hehehe.

I heard that your mate used alot of samples from Reason's samplelibrary (which sucks - but then again, it's just like presets - some tend to like them and use them and some hate them)

It depends - It's really fun to mess around with it - for example let the Redrum trigger a leadsound and another matrix controlling the pitch on the lead - or why not, let a Subtractor both trigger the sound and controlling pitch, mod, filter all by itself? I've made some really weird noises with Reason

Here is another thing - it also depends how good the person using the program is.. I can make Reason sound pretty fat, _but_ as for all software's it usually don't tend to have that warmth in the sound as an analogue synthesizer but with some effects, eq (Reason's EQ sucks) and so on it can sound pretty nice.

No, make it more "pornstyle-ish".. mmm, porn

This is a real pitty DS. I like some your 80s style sounds, so I hope you will do another version.

Honestly with-out alot of outboard processing or even rewiring inboard, reason synths aren't the best I rekon. Peeple seem to get some good sounds out of it, but they have really unique editing procedures (like 303 mentioned).

I rekon you should follow your 80s version of the Numan-esque style more. I liked that track and I want to hear more like it.

Yes well ive come to realise that I should have been an 80's popstar. My soundset is going to reflect this!! heheh

Gary Numan did some great songs.....im modelling some of his classic synth sounds. In fact his most famous synth sound (i.e. the synth string used on 'Cars') was a preset on the Moog PolyMoog keyboard. YES!! a keyboard....not synth! The factory preset was called 'VoxHumana'.

I really dont think my m8's wanna use my 80's sounds for their shitty trance. Their loss! Personally i think it goes really well.....and creats an entirely new atmospher......but no they wanna stick to their shite....

Ill keep u posted. Im trying to get them to re-do the track using all my own sounds.....but they are unreliable to say the least
