Default One of my old one's...

Hi,

Just thought I'd post a link to an old track I did. Actually this was pretty much the first track I completed when I bought my setup, almost a year ago....

It is quite Pop/Rock sounding, but started off as a dance based track. The drums in it are still very basic, and I will be replacing them soon with Live drums.

Please feel free to tear it to shreds and tell me about all the things you Like/Hate. Cheers,

Jase

Kind of interesting, but a little corny sounding honestly. The structure of the track flows quite well, but there are a few things that just don't sit well with me. Hard to express what though.

Vocal - The harmony is a little odd to me. However in the section that starts at 1min 42 or so, I like the vocal much better, but it's set far back in the mix here. Should be the other way around I rekon. Plus the litte "oh oh" hits kinda sound fun, but in a corny way. Personal choice here though.

Drums - A bit lifeless - specially when compared to that other track I've listened to of yours. Both are quite basic, but the production and groove of these ones aren't there like your last track. This was done a while ago though, plus you already mentioned that you will be changing these, so...I'll shut up about now

Guitars - I like the guitars. Although those little lead licks don't fit perfectly.

Bass - Fits well and I have no gripes at all with this end of the track.

Organ - I like the melody, but the sound itself isn't a nice as it could be. Quite static. Juho is the rhodes/organ (and not forgeting to mention - accordian) man here, so I'm sure he will have more to say about this part.

To sum up, not a bad track. But there is still something that just doesn't sit perfectly with me.

By the way the section that comes in at 1min42 is great. I think if you want to rework the track, make a track around this section. Of course after beefing up the vocals here too.

Thanks for the listen.

It's funny that you mention the vocals at 1min42...... That was actually the singer improvising...making things up and talking gibberish! He didnt want me to include that in the mix, but I insisted and he was only happy if they sat back in the mix, as you noted. I thought this part was great too.....it's funny, sometimes the best bits of music are not planned or by accident.

I agree too with your comments on the organ. We had a hard time with those... we wanted them to be alot more "gritty" and modulating (I think thats what it is)

Thanks for listening mate, it is always nice to get an honest opinion, as sometimes my good friends are afraid they might hurt my feelings, when what you really need is blunt honesty!

Cheers,

Jase

Luckily my friends (that are into any sort of production or DJing) are honest as all fuck 8O. I appriciate them speaking their mind about my music/sound, so I try to do the same with other peoples stuff too. Although I do tame it down for people who are just starting out or whatever. No problem is what I'm trying to say.

I'm glad you managed to convince him to leave that section in though mate. I do like that part.
