you have to connect your virus midi out to your computer midi in, ensure that sysex (the data format the virus sends to the sequencer to communicate) filtering is disabled in your sequencer for the recording, hit record and tweak your knobs!
it is good to seperate melodies from sysex information, so create a new track with the same channel number as the melody and record the filter movements into it.

Or you could also set modwheel to control filters and record modwheel to MIDI.

If you're recording many different filter functions, do them on different tracks in your sequencer but on the same midi channel. That way if you only want to change one filter movement later you don't have to re-record everything. Make's it easier to edit too.

the filter/amp/mix pot data send by the virus is not sysex but controller data. thats because they send a stream of data.

cubase or other programms have their own way of handling controller data.
