I agree - HW is where it's at. Try running your audio out of you computer and into the Virus - fan-friggin-tastic if you set it up right. Even my lexicon mpx200 sounds better than most SW, and it ain't all that good (it can get a bit noisy)

im definately a bigger fan of hardware when it comes to synths, but i would say there are far more better options for fx on the Sw plugins.

i think (Juho) you are a wee bit too critical of the quality of the reverbs, but i suppose it all comes down to personal taste.

it would get a bit boring if we all liked and used the same sounds and Fx.

I actually use both. I always record main leads etc. with Virus effects on them already. Some minor effects (sweeps / TB stuff etc) I might record plain and add effects later on. I use a lot of software FX though, also for drums.

I imagine if you have alot of processing power you can get some good effects chains on a PC or mac. Again that's DSP power.

Has anybody tried the impulse modeled reverb plugins?

You can try a free one here. (One of the best)

http://www.knufinke.de/sir/index_en.html

With Voxengo Impulse Modeler you can make your own impulse responses.

http://www.voxengo.com/imodeler/

There`s also some sample cd`s of impulses from different environment available, but there are impulses available on the web taken from hardware reverb units aswell

That TommyS' link is interesting. Sounds good. But I think it has the same problem as my other good software reverb: It eats CPU like a mad man.
