Default Microsoft: Windows 7 x64 users may want to turn off Aero for

Heads up if you weren't already aware...

Quote:
Microsoft
is investigating a new public report of a vulnerability in the Canonical Display Driver (cdd.dll) in Windows operating system. Although it is possible that the vulnerability could allow code execution, successful code execution is unlikely due to memory randomization. In most scenarios, it is much more likely that an attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could cause the affected system to stop responding and automatically restart.

Oh come on, you can't be that paranoid... If an actual threat materializes, then I'll start worrying and switch Aero off. What's the point of having Win 7 if you can't use Aero?

Its good that MS is staying on top of things and finding the obscure exploit possibilities long before the hackers do. There's not much to worry about on Windows 7 64bit, all the low hanging fruit from Windows is long gone. Hackers can pick on Macs if they want an easy target. Pro hackers can tear Macs apart in seconds where they can barely phase Vista 64 or Win7 64.

"Writing exploits for Vista is hard work. Writing exploits for Mac is
a lot of fun."

I agree no point in being paranoid.

But if some users are experiencing bsod especially if they are daft enough to open dodgy attachments in emails, visit suspect webpages or down illegitamate warez...it's an option to consider in omitting possibilities.

Daft is a euphemism for doing that. I'd call it incredibly stupid and masochistic.
