Default National Geographic

Thee-hee. I've always thought National Geographic is some sort of a scientific tabloid which articles and documents contain good doses of fiction but now NG has reached a new peak: Look at here.

NG states that in Finland shrinking ice caps are threatening local polar bears. Now that's a groundbreaking story! I wonder how the global warming affects the mountain gorilla population of western Finland or the sharks of Saimaa. We really have to act soon to stop the global warming before we loose all exotic animals!

Not exactly what they said.

They said "According to scientists in Finland, global warming is putting many animals in danger of extinction."

I agree that it does imply that Polar Bears live here, though.

As for the European Mink, there are LOADS of mink here. But they are the aggressive American Mink who were brought here for farming purposes. Animal rights activists released many of them into the wild and they have just about wiped out all the locals. Nothing to do with global warming.

Don't rag on Nat Geo... they are sending me to Venezuela at the end of the month, where I will venture into the Amazon to hunt giant tarantula and take magic mushrooms with a shamanistic tribe.

Will post pics if I make it back alive...

I'm a little scared of mind altering drugs... I've taken my fair share in the past, and I now appreciate how fragile the mind is. I think the feeling of indestructibility of my youth gave me the courage to push my mind to the limits, but as I've aged I've become more scared of losing the plot.

I think if I took magic mushrooms in the Amazon with a shamanistic tribe I might just never come back

They had corrected it: "CORRECTION (January 4, 200: An earlier version of this page implied that Finland is home to wild polar bears."

But before you go read some Castaneda to get into the mood.

It would definetly be a progressive experience, but you never know what mushrooms they feed to you. Maybe they just need some human sacrifices to get rid of draught.
