I seem to remember being told the sound originaly came from a Roland synth, I thought it was the JP8080.

Thats why I was thinking it could be possible with my virus, because although I dont know that much about the JP8080 I know its simlar to the virus.

Timo - that clip sounds really good, I would be interested in buying those samples but at the moment im skint I may be in touch at some point in the future though

Having proper listen to the loops today...

I would think the piz used in Insomnia would be quite hard (if not impossible) to repro on the virus as we hear it. Also the verb has quite a different character. I have no doubt you could probably get close.

I wonder if its originally a manged a sample. The same piz (I think) is also used layered in Salva Mea.

Wonder what our resident sound crafters think

(?)

I had a quick hack at a bit of Insomia on the Virus TI. If someone wants the results patch do yell. Its not exactly the same, but similar.

What you hear is slighly EQd.

http://home.btconnect.com/sirwarwick...somniatest.mp3

Other sounds - drums - motifs es rack - a 909 preset, bass - novation ks-rack preset.

Forgive my dodgy transcribing

Yeh - I might be able to do a better job of re-creating if I can hear the original.

BTW - what was the patch name?

That mp3 seems to have lost the reso... Grrr!

I think Ive got it *alot* closer this time; updated the Insomnia patch demo here. (Original music (C) Faithless)

The sound used in the original Faithless tracks is I think very heavily compressed, therefore so is the sound in this patch demo.

Patch is here.

Patch is tweakable via soft knobs and mod wheel - enjoy.

its s a layer of few plucks it can be done in virus with no effects almost any pluck will sound that way also consider that u might need same notes for this sound to sound same couse every note has its own frequency so if u play same patch in difrent note it can sound pitched or totaly difrent

That is pretty good. Layer a Roland Pizzi sample underneath that and you'd be in club heaven.

Just received a mail back from Roland this morning, they said the JV-1080 sample section is the same as the MC505.

I'm still not sure whether the MC505/JV1080 pizzi was the one used. I'd love to be able to check out the JD990/JD800 pizzi sample to make sure.

Yeh - I just cant enough 'attitude' out of the TI even with osc phase tweaked, punch maxed, the envelopes as blipy as they can be and using an lfo in one-shot to add a noise blip. This is the area where I find the V-Synth a bit more intense.

Needs a better compressor on the job as well - bog standard compressor that ships with Cubase SX - which I allways thought was crap - though TBH I didnt exactly pay alot of attension to compression - just cranked it

I would be interested to know what went into the original sample sound used - sounds like the kind of thing I could have got out of a D50 or DX7 quite easily.
