Yeah...Studer is most famous for analogue multi-track machines...

I have seen some Studer 169 consoles 2nd hand floating about, but Im sure most would need alot of work and maintenance.

The one I bought had just recently been re-capped, and the original faders were replaced with higher quality Penny&Giles.

Still...I need to do some work to the console as the right side of the master section has just fucked out. There was some DC leaking, probably from a dirty capacitor, and now the right VU meter is completely dead. Hopefully it is just a problem with the meter bridge, and not with the master section!

The preamps in the Studer are somewhere between Neve and SSL. Not as coloured as Neve, not as clean as SSL. The EQ's are gorgeous! Definately the best thing I have ever bought

Here here! I would have to agree...although I hear some good things about the SH-5 and SH-7

I think my mono synth days are over. Next on the list is a Juno-60, perhaps a DX7 or D50. and then my life will be complete!
Oh wait, maybe an Oberheim Matrix 1000

Oh actually, I wouldnt mind an SCI pro One

And come to think of it, a decent analogue Drum machine is a must

Shit Jase, the bug bit you something rotten! Great to see mate.

I've been looking for an SH2 just too - I think they are real keepers. Juno-60s go for dirt cheap here, so I was thinking of grabbing one for a try (not sure though). As far as the matrix goes...be careful as the voice chips can fail, so buying can be a little risky (although buying a few alows you to layer the voices by conecting them up).

I now have a shop lined up in Ausi for analogue consignments, so from a few days ago on (got ADSL connected at home) I have been searching the auctions. I love getting this stuff to try out, sample, then pass it on for a profit!

right - you're very lucky if you can find one ... they're extremly rare, and the ones in good conditions are very expencive

True about being rare, but they never sell for that much over here though. The most expensive ones I see go for about $450us (and that's in the shops - I know where there's 2 in Tokyo at the moment). If you look on the auctions you can get them much cheaper.

Ahh Japan.

the price also depends on the age ... you'll have to look out for one of the later SH2 editions, the first production series had extremley unstable oscilators ... and it sometimes takes for about an hour until you can use them. I had luck, my one powers up and is usable within 30 seconds.

Thanks for the info AW. Useful for sure and it gives me another question for the sellers.
