Now started playing:

Let's start by saying I don't like the drums. Too stiff and don't actually fit on the song very well. Otherwise nice Ozric Tentacles -like flowing song. And I didn't like those orchestral hit sounds. Reminds me of late-80's soundtracks. Gives me shivers. Hoho. This needs a silent sitar on the background. That sustain sitar sound. Maybe some indian chants and tablas with lots of taape echo and delay.

Wider leslie on that Hammond (at least I think I hear a Hammond on the background). This has very early-90's sound. Ok track. Maybe too repeating and "flat" for my taste. By flat I mean that theres no peaks or valleys. It just stays constant without variation. Sometimes it's good thing, sometimes it's not. This would be a good background music for something.

Now this is more like a game music or something. Sounds good. Has that touch of .mod demos. Probably because of the lead sounds. Very retro. Again a bit too repeative, but otherwise nice.

Ozric Tentacles is delicious in small doses. Try it out. Very good modern space rock.

im listening to the first one now...

i like it! interesting composition and the underlying guts of the track has a real groove. its very differnent but not difficult to listen to at all. some of the sounds didnt really catch me though...personal preference i guess..

now to a few gripes...the drums dont really cut it for me - a bit mechanical...

anways, not bad at all.

im on a dail-up conection today so ill give the others a listen when i get access to the cable at work!

Hi Hollowcell ! thank you so much for taking the time and listenning,
yeah i know i have a lot of improving to do and you're comment about
the drums sound made me look at things in another prospective,
they do sound mechanical and when i think about it,all of my songs
suffer of this problem..i promise to try and do better in the future
and thanks again.

Default . . .

Song #1

i have to disagree about the orchestral hits. . .i think they work. it gives the song a nice reference to Depeche Mode.

The drum sounds are ok in my opinion, however the programming is a little too static. creating a little deviation in the drum patterns, or overlaying some syncopated or polyrythmic parts would go a long way toward increasing the dynamic range of the song.

Song #2

nice late 80's Micheal Jackson feel right off the bat

i would like to hear the bass a little more "in your face" on this one, maybe a fatter patch or double it with a sub bass.

there is a melodic part that comes in about 2/3 of the way into the song, its MUCH better than the glitchy sound in the lead (which is still OK). i would like to hear the melody of that part come to the fore more.

high percussive part that is being used on the offbeats about half way through is cool.

i think overall i would reccomend a more linear approach to layering the various melodies and rhythms to progress the tune toward a climactic end. its a good tune, but a little disorganized and seems like it just sort of ambles up to the end

Song #3

Nice! i like the harder drums on this one immediately. very Depeche Mode !

again id like to hear a whole polyrhythmic part as a breakdown riffing off of the initial drum parts.

lead sound with the note bends not my favorite, but i kind of hate note bends so you can disregard it as personal taste.

i really like the bounce the second or third melody adds to the feel about half way through the song.

the more i listen the more annoyed the bent lead makes me. again, personal taste.

again, really want to hear a total DM style drum breakdown.

Overall:

im gonna say based on what i hear of your programming you should explore layered rhythms more. the material you have is good and could really benefit from the enhanced dynamics layered rhythms could add. Reccomended listening for this stuff: later Depeche Mode (can you tell i like DM? )

I've just downloaded song 3.

I like it - it reminds me a little of Talk Talk who I liked in the 80s (showing my age now !)

I tend to agree with some of the others in that I think the pitch bending on the lead gets a little bit tiring after a while.

Have you considered doing some vocals on it, instead ? This could turn into a catchy synth pop tune with a good vocal hook - just ready for the 80s comeback, if it ever happens
