the most comparable hardware synth to an original TB303 ... is a self-solder-kit called the AcidCode ML-303, it's a perfect copy of the original with some additional features and the sound is very close to the vintage trasnistor bass from Roland ! This would be the only one i'd use ... all Teebees & Freebasses may go to hell

Speaking of ML, I just saw a ML-303 v5 on sale in Sweden for about $700.

Tried to find some samples what it sounds like, but didn't find any. Since I already have TB and Rev I probably wont buy it, but I would like to hear it anyways.

All of these emulative synths come as close as you want them to be.....but the reality is if you were to make a direct comparison then you'd immediately hear the flaws/differences.

In my opinion....if you are true to yourself and a passionate synthesist.....you will save up the money....make a few sacrificies.....and buy the real thing.

Companies these days post audio clips on the net comparing their product to the real thing. But they always use generic sounds (hmm....a sawtooth with a bit of filter) and post it as a dynamic crushing MP3. Try listening to proper wav. files and you'll hear the difference. Im sure companies could post wav. files.....but they dont

Its entirely upto. Nothing sounds like a 303 except a true analog 303. That is the plain truth. Rather than looking at an emulation that apparently gets 75% of the way there....try looking at it as the 25% that will never get there

DS: If i remeber correctly an ML-303 contains every exact bit and piece as the original TB303. If you can hear the difference in that one i bet you're really good.

I think they did some test with an 303-fanatic and the ML303 and he couldn't hear any difference and that wasn't a dynamiccrushed 128kbit encoded MP3. They did the experience live.

And every ML303 doesn't sound like the next ML303 either
