Default John Denver. I have to share this with you..

1973. I wanted a guitar so badly. My dad bought me this Korean job from the classifieds of the Manchester Evening News for £12 (new price!). I wanted to play this song even more than to play for Manchester City:

I took the Korean guitar. I learnt to play this on it:

I played it to the old boy. He looked at me very seriously then took me down to a music shop in town and bought me a Shaftesbury Les Paul copy and a Laney combo for £45. Jesus, I wish I still had that guitar. xx

John Denver crashed his Easy Glider in the midst of a massive bout of depression, from what I hear. My former boss was a hobbysit pilot. We flew to a software trade show in his Cessna and an "Easy Glider" passed underneath us (far below):

My boss told me that was the kind of plane John Denver was flying when he crashed and died...

Poor fella. He was a talented and good hearted fellow. A bit before my time though, and too "hippy" for my parents...may he rest in peace.

The Easy Glider was going faster than the Cessna or just crossing laterally?

It's a nice looking machine.

JD was kinda like The Carpenters. Clean-cut crossover type stuff. Guaranteed not to swear on live TV. He was much-fetted by the republicans, despite being a conservationist lefty.

Talking of The Carpenters, did you ever see bongo-crazy Karen play the drums? What a gal!

Here with John Denver, no less!

Hey OVM,

The Easy Glider was crossing under us, laterally. It didn't seem to be going too fast at all, just cruising along.

Karen Carpenter and the Bongos? If Mama Cass would have given Karen Carpenter that ham sandwich they both might be alive today...
