Default Some of my music ... unfinished, unpolished.

Hi, guys. I finally am able to post a part of a song I'm working on featuring many Virus C sounds.
I have the song appropriately named VirusC which has many default Virus C sounds, and the Motif ES providing drums, then two more named Motif which are exclusively all from the Motif ES, and one YHV song that is all softsynths (and drum samples) and real guitars.

The songs aren't finished or polished and I've got to clean the articulation on the guitar solo of the YVH song.

I'll venture a guess that it's probably clich? music, but it's how I try to learn a genre.

You comments (good or bad) are certainly welcome. I mainly do this to entertain myself and a group of friends. I would like to get better at this (especially more complex sequencer and sound design programming) I hope you enjoy it. I'll certainly accept ideas to finish these songs or touch them up.

just listening to the track 'VirusC' now.

really like that bassline/lead in the intro (and though-out the whole track)...creates a cool groove. seems to constantly change which is nice also...but i dont really like it when it gets close to the end of the MP3 (maybe u sliced it up for a bit of fun near the end)..

drums are minimal, but effective...they did feel a little static after a while..although those little delayed effect hits spiced them up a bit.....by the way, i liked the high bell in the precussion, gave a contrast.

the production was good...

nice work!

Hi. Thank you for the nice comments. Where the bass line started chopping up, I am gonna move into a faster section of the song. I'll post it when it's completed and hopefully it will make more sense.

I'll go back and take lots of time getting the drums lively.

Once again, thanks for the nice words.
I wasn't sure if anyone would like it.

regards
Richard

I really like the sound of the electric guitars! (in YHV_roughMix). Can you share your recording techniques??? Aswel as mic choice and signal path etc

Keep up the good work

Hi. I'm glad you liked the guitar tones.

Believe it or not, I used my Charvel Model VII guitar with fresh strings into my PodXT into my soundcard I had at the time: M-Audiophile Delta 2406, then on into Logic.

The section where the guitar first comes in was the toughest to get.
I had to use several monster EQ tweaks, some delay, chorus, etc. to get the sound. The POD XT can't actually make the tone that I recorded. I tinkered with it for a while using Logic's built-in effects till I found something I liked.

I can't remember the section where it gets fastest, but I think it was a HiWatt or Soldano preset tweaked to oblivion. The solo guitar sound was also tweaked to oblivion and was a third patch that had MONSTER sustain dialed in. I lost all these patches quite some time ago.

----

I'd have preferred a Royer 121 into a vintage Marshall stack.

Looks like I will be needing a POD then......

I normally use my old fender, into a roland Jazz/Chorus-77, mic'd up with a 57, an AKG D112, AND a small diaphragm condensor......and after all that it STILL sounds thin and lifeless......

Going onto ebay now to hunt down a bargain POD!

Thanks for sharing your secrets,

Jase

Default pod xt

It's a Pod XT ... not the original Pod... and it had all sorts of FX applied in Logic.

Jasedee, have you considered trying out a pair of distressors?
http://www.empiricallabs.com/ They're expensive but may offer help with getting the thick sounds.
Here's a great thread on guitar tones:
http://marsh.prosoundweb.com/index.p...0ddd44d47253eb
Read that thread and follow those three links in the first post. You won't regret it.

Anyway, I have not been thrilled with the overall sounds from the Pod XT but I can't afford a $4600 Hughes & Kettner ZenTera or a $2500 Line6 Vetta II through a Palmer at this time. The Pod XT is good for practicing, etc., but it's generally easy to hear when someone is using one on their tracks.

Have you considered the sansamp PSA rack? http://www.sansamp.com/sansamp_intro.html

You'll generally see that in the racks in studios as opposed to the Pod XT.

Thanks for the kind words on the guitar tone!!!

I guess I should spend a little more time considering my purchases that will benefit me in the long run, instead of trying to find a cheap quick fix! So much gear I want......so little money to spend

Those threads were great..... a wealth of knowledge out there for those willing to learn. cheers.

Jase
