Default Running out of DSP

Hey, I recently bought a used TI, and I'm really surprised at how
fast I'm running out of polyphony. I'm nowhere near 50 voices, and I'm not using any of the DSP consuming features like hypersaw or PWM osc and such.

I'm doing things that my older virus B could handle quite easily.

Is it possible that I somehow got scammed?

Look at how many bars your patch is using for a start - if its 4 to 5 bars its going to drain DSP pretty fast. Delay lengths also strongly affect the DSP. Are you using it in VC or standalone? Are you getting note stealing?

What do you mean by how many bars?

Is there a way to measure how much DSP each patch is going to use?

I'm using it in VC with Live 8.05.

By note stealing I assume you mean polyphony reduction? If so that's exactly what I'm getting.

Yes! there is a way to measure...

On the screen you will find a square wich is emty 1,2,3,4 or 5 blocks...

look at : virus TI QUICKSTART manual page 41 and 42! (they do not mention about the screen) (stupid manual)

If you use in one patch a analog 1-4pole filter it reduces polyphony by 50%

the virus ti2 has about 100 voices I think... use it wisely! not every sound should be very complex...

10x!

Yeah the docs are really terrible.

I didn't use any of the special features, but I realized that just using
the ring modulator might take me from 3 bars to 4. I don't know why, it's such a simple modulation.

In itself, perhaps, but maybe it just takes the whole patch over the 3/4 threshold ?

yeah i am the same, in single mode its super cool but i find multimode on this machine totally flawed even in stand alone mode.I wonder if the ti2 is better ? i guess you have the mk1 , i feel thats why access did the ti2 with 25% more power , as they knew well that the real problem with the mk1 ti was dsp power is to low really , lets face it it is ? it states upto 16 part multi , its not unless you use 16 sine waves and no fx and simple sounds.I feel they maybe took the p...s a bit on some level.I work with very dense and complex modulations and ambient pads that eat dsp and i am lucky to get 3 to 4 sounds before the notes steal and outputs pop and click ( in non usb stand alone mode using the virus ti's main analogue outs ) i use to put this down os problems and bugs but its not , the machines just under powered for what i want ( for what I want ) it remains a stunning sound but i just dub to audio tracks now.I was always surprised access didnt put in a fail safe device so the user in multi mode can only load sounds to the value of the dsp ? so you cant laod to many sounds and freak out the ti.Its the only device i know that when it overloads the dsp it doesnt just note steal it glicthes the audio signal .Maybe the ti2 is better ?
