Default Yamaha Motif ES....this is cool!

All of a sudden ive become excited! The Motif ES8 has the ability to an add a DX7 expansion board - giving you the true DX engine....no emulation. You can even load up sounds from all the original DX synths and vice versa. Along with the V-Synths D50 capabilities im enjoying the resurgeance of 80's digital. Yeeha!

Lets all listen to some DX7 action

DX Piano

Various DX sounds

Good times. Now all i need to do is save up for a Motif ES8.

Correction...all you have to do is save up for a Motif ES Rack!

Looooooads cheaper than an ES8 and can still utilize PLG boards...right?

BTW, I just bought one! :P

Default All you have to do is ...

All you have to do is buy the orginal DX-7 for a cheaper price than the PLG card

I have a DX7MKIIFD already....apparently you can load the 999 factory presets which come with the ES dx7 expansion board and play them on ur original dx7. This is quite appealing to me....as im sure there will be some nice dx7 sounds within those ES presets

I threw my dx7 in a corner and shit on it. why are you so proud of your dx7 that you gotta tell us about it every week?

btw as you said several times that the dx does some FM, it ain't no fm. furthermore, it's not musical but a try'n'error-good-luck synthesis method...

I dont use a DX7 MKI......i use a DX7MKIIFD....and there is a big difference between the two in terms of UI and features. I like the DX7 because its relatively unused these days and its capable of great sounds which sound fresh because...ermmm....people dont use DX7's. Im all for using synths that sound different to what is currently being used. I love the DX7 because it is what it is and its not emulating anything.

What is this about the DX7 aint no fm...wtf is this? It sounds boring to you....unmusical? Man you need to check these out >> DX7 showcase DX7 showcase 2

Alternatively....before shitting on your dx...you should have tried to program it atleast. Its more expressive than your virus I can tell you that...

yes, roland themselves don't call it fm but phasedistortion. it's phasemodulation. one of e results is that the sound doesn't alter in pitch but the pitch is stable independantly on your modulation... try this on a real FM synth. and yes, fm is very very unmusical. the result may be musical, but the way to that result is a waste of time with try and error
Why do you think yamaha's expansion cards for the dx were that successful?

I did, and then I decided to shit on it

the dx7 now serves for two things: it's a built-like-a-tank-masterkeyboard (I'm afraid your dx7mkII keyboard is a much cheaper one than the one of the dx7mk1) and as a radiator - it gets warm very fast which is nice in the winter...
