Steve. We play Clash and Iggy covers. Actually needs a cleanish hard sound.
I'm gonna order one next week.

Yeah order one Matsa, they are pretty unique little boxes when compared to all the other stuff around.

Anyway, I made a little demo for all those who are interested.
If you want to use the Tonelab for guitar it may not give you a true representation of what you're in for though.

Read before listening: The demo consists of 10 seperate sounds, but to give you a little idea of the tonal variation within the TL, I used only two patches off the V-Synth - first 5 sounds use one patch and the second 5 use another.

No other FX were used for the demo and no time at all went into FX programming as I just knob turned between recordings.

Go to the Sounclick link in my signature to listen and then crank up the volume!

The last 3 sounds were played as to show the way it reacts to dynamics.
Very musical box for sure!!!

Wicked sounds mate

Been thinking of a getting a SansAmp for doing this kind of thing - + would replace the V-Amp units in my guitar rig - after hearing that - might change my mind

Though the v-synth actually has quite decent sounding drive and amp modelling in it anyway for a synth.

Thanks Khazul!

I wanna be quick to say though, these were really nothing compared to what you can achieve when you program sounds (on a chosen synth/noise maker) together with the AMP sims on this thing. I spent a good few hours after recording this little demo doing exactly that and I am really, REALLY impressed with it. For amp sims it's amazing!

As it really reacts to volume levels (maybe you could tell with the last 3 or so sounds on this demo) you can program sounds to really react well depending on how loud you play them (very different to any other amp sim I've played with).

Also I spent time today programming the SE70 and VF1 to fit along side (or be routed through it) and fuck me it was great. Using something like this for the amp sims (and maybe a little OD) and then using the 100% digital stuff for everything else is a very nice combo. Although some nice old school pedals running into this thing has to be tried (unfortunately not by me at the moment as I don't have any).

As far as the amp sims go on the V-Synth, I have to say I don't use them that often for a couple of reasons:
1. My VF1 and SE70 combo seems to beat it most of the time.
2. I usually use all the COSM sections of the V-Synth to build filters, or compress. Please add some more filters Roland!!

Anyway for the money I do really like this thing.

Two thumbs up!

Thanks for doing that Steve. I remember putting my Virus C through a POD1 and it sounded absolutely terrible. Not that I'll be doing that again soon, but I can hear the quality was very good on your demo there mate. And just presets, yeah? Can't wait.

Khazul, I used to have that Sans Amp unit. If you're after heavy heavy sounds it's pretty good. Not that versatile though.

I didn't actually use presets there - I just set it into "manual" mode and used the knobs to tweak (read the manual for that one when you get it Matsa). Manual mode gives a "what you see is what you get" setup as far as the knobs and buttons go (kinda like using a "real" amp). I put it into manual mode and played the same 2 synth sounds, tweaking the Tonelab a little bit each time I recorded a new one.

After quickly recording this demo I sat down and tweaked my synth patches too - damn rewarding!! Could really tune my synth sounds to trigger the TL in many very nice ways.

One tip for any buyers...
Make sure you read the manual to find out what the amps do, as some of the vinatge amps don't use all the knobs they have labeled there - in these cases the left over knobs do things which aren't written on the face of the unit. Found this one out today.

Made an mp3 here of my EMG's (fingers off, no buzz) and the Guitar Port. Shitty presets and out of tune Telecaster:

Sounds pretty good Matsa! You'll have to do a demo after you get the TL as well.

Anyway your guitar demo inspired me to finally listen to a few of the guitar only demos on the HC thread and some were very nice. Here's a few that I thought weren't bad:

Blimey, that does sound evil. Certainly more dynamic than the things that come out of NI Guitar Rig, Steve!

You have a tube screamer, Matsa? Bet that's awesome. I have a little plugin that I guess tries to emulate it, think it was a freebie from the SimulAnalog set, sounds really nice in itself (for what it is) but am sure the real deal sounds 10 times better!

Yeah the second to last and last sounds of the demo show a little of what it can do in that regard - that second to last one has "run a 303 through me" all over it!

Programming the actual synth sounds (which I didn't do fo that demo) so they work on that edge really brings this thing to life. Playing with velocity curves, velocity amounts - EQ, cutoff/rez etc all create a really musical amp like experience.

I really like it for what I am aiming for.
