Yeah that sucks pretty much. Actually i was looking at bying a Motif Rack ES (someday when i have the money) but i?m not so sure now that i shows that it?s not the same as the keyboard versions. How is the Fantom XR compared to the Motif ES? Same soundquality? Any pros/cons (except them listed already)?

It's a matter of taste. Not huge differences. Fantom has better sampling section and the piano is excellent (includes the resonance emulation of the new Roland stage pianos), Motif has better electric pianos. But on the other sections it's quite even battle. I'd recommend trying them out by yourself, because it's really a matter of taste.

I personally dig Roland stuff (nice full and fat samplings), so I'd probably get the Fantom.

Sounds like from what your writing that it might be the Fantom XR i?m after. I?ve been looking for a realistic piano but i haven?t really found one that pleased me and i don?t really use electric pianos for anything. The sampling option is nice too and they have taken that out of the rack edition of Motif ES and the price is almost the same I think i?ll go check them both out some day but things are pointing at Fantom XR

Don't shun electric pianos and Hammonds. They are actually one of the rare instruments that fit in anykind of music. For example soft rhodes can easily accompany background pad. Mixing it really back (almost barely audible) it can do wonders to any stuff. And same goes to Hammond.

OT: Actually mixing back certain instruments can brighten the mix. For example I've even heard black metal track that was imporved greatly with an acoustig guitar strumming on the background. You couldn't actually hear the guitar, but if it was muted the mix got flat and boring. It's like magic.

As the ES rack doesn't have the sampling option, I'd say let it be. The sampling is afterall pretty important feature of a modern workhorse PCM synth.

I wasn?t saying that electrical pianos and hammonds are bad. I think they work great with lots of music. It?s just that i almost never use them myself
