I have an 828mkII that I just picked up a month ago; and the ever-popular 24/96. I guess if you don't need lots of i/o, then the 24/96 is ok, but I never cared for it that much...was always having to plug/unplug stuff, and I hate the fact that it has RCA connections instead of 1/4". But I suppose it sounds fine.

The 828mkII, on the other hand, KICKS ASS. You have loads of i/o flexibility, all my synths and sound generators can be permanently plugged in, plus it acts as a stand-alone digital mixer, just bring it to the show and don't bring the computer And it has MIDI, ADAT Lightpipe, S/PDIF, mic pre's. I could go on. Love it. Best money spent on my studio, IMHO....

Are the ESI stuff usually good then?
I mean that would eliminate the need for a midi interface as well!
Any date when this is going to be available?
They have been postponing the launch of these products for months. I heard about them at least 6 months ago and even have brochures about them.
This product is based on their WamiRack192L (PCI based) audio card

As far as I know their stuff is OK
I think it should be out very soon
I have a wamibox. What I know of ESI is that it's a small Korean company. As for the wamibox their support sucks. They had stange drivers that i did find and software that I can't seem to find. I think their wamirack was their top card though and put alot more time into that (It probably kept them in business).

It seems like they changed their website. Possibly they are a new company now on the terms of, "What can we do to make ESI better, more competitive?" But I wouldn't jump all over their cards. Wait for some reviews or feedback. They should be more cheap.

Default Lynx L2 or L22 even

I'm using a Lynx L22 with my Mac in OS X. I could kick myself for not buying an L2 so I could have more analog inputs...oh well. The cards are pricey but they're reallllly realllly good.

The Lynx is awesome on PC (1 or 2ms latency) and Mac OS9 (1 or 2ms latency) but they're working on Core Audio latency issues.

I'm experiencing 663 samples of delay at 48kHz when I record from one of it's outputs back into one of it's inputs.

They're gonna be fixing it as it's their next priority.
The A/D conversion is the best there is for a PCI card, and it surpasses many external A/D's by some opinions.
The D/A is supposedly fantastic, but I don't use it. I use external D/A.

I don't mean to sound like a commercial, but if you want the best A/D and D/A in a PCI card, go with LynxStudio cards.

I use 3 different yamaha's

Yamaha DSP factory (basically an 01v mixing desk on a card) handles all my audio
Yamaha SW1000XG linked to the DSP factory via a serial link (20 meg rom sounds)
Yamaha AX16 lightpipe board which connects tha above to my 01v desk via lightpipe keeping it all digital!
