Maybe its worth your while to invest in something cheap but useful like a Tascam US 122 or 144 USB 2.0 Audio/Midi interface.
I use the Tascam as my ASIO driver in Cubase 5, and when not in cubase, just run the L and R outputs of the virus into the inputs so I can just jam through the monitors.
Should solve some of your issues regarding routing and ASIO conflicts, and make it easier on you as a beginner.
